Growing Practices
Here at Willow View Farms, we use a combination of traditional farming methods, and newer, scientific based techniques and technology. We practice crop rotation, and the use of organic manure, and specific cover crops to build soil health and suppress soil borne diseases and pests.
A sustainable form of farming called Integrated Pest Management is used to monitor diseases and pests, and to determine if, when, and what treatment may be necessary. Monitoring is done using pheromone traps, weather data, degree day models (accumulated heat units), and field scouting to assess disease presence, and ratios of pests and beneficial predator insects.
When it’s necessary to control a disease or pest, we use the best appropriate, organic or conventional product that will reduce or eliminate the threat to the crop, but have the least negative effect on predator insects, pollinators, and the environment. We closely follow government regulatory guidelines.
Our family lives and works on the farm, and we are vigilant about following safe practices for all.
